(Untitled 2) - Chapter 1 (Unfinnished)

Notes: Girl moved to a new city to be closer to schizophrenia treatment center and discovers new friends, her little brother is a pest, and no one listens to her, especially when a man begins to stalk her. He's real, she says. But no one believes her, they just tell her to take her pill. Why won't they listen to me?

CHAPTER ONE

Well here I am, in a new city. Mom says we had to move here to be closer to my treatment. I think it blows. Anyway when's dinner?

"Danny," a taunting little voice came from the door frame, "Don't look outside the window, Danny, the monsters might try to fill your head with dirty maggots! Aha!"
Danielle hurled a pillow out the door as the carrier of the voice laughed unmercifully and ran out of sight.

Sorry, that was my brother Jake, he's such a loser. He's always annoying me, and telling me that I'm the messed up child. He thinks just because I take meds. that I'm crazy. Oh, yeah, I forgot to tell you, I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia. But don't worry, I'm not crazy or anything. It started two years ago, all I remember is seeing things I didn't understand, but they were rare. Then one time they just got out of control, I was hospitalized, and put on medication. I don't like the meds. much . . . It makes my stomach hurt.
Anyway, I think dinner is ready. I'll continue writing tomorrow.

Danny dragged her feet down the stairs and into the dining room next to the kitchen where her brother Jake sat slopping up his spaghetti into his mouth. He gave her a devilish smile as their mother set glasses of tea on the table.
The three of them all sat down at the table and after moments of awkward silence, the mom spoke.
"So, are you guys excited about going to a new school in a few weeks?"
Jake talked through spaghetti in his mouth, "Yes! I've already made a new friend, I think his name is Hammy? Uh, no, wait . . . Anyway, he lives down the street, he said he knows everything there is to know about the school I'll be going to."
"Oh, that's great, hunny. What about you, Danny?"
"Oh, I think Hammy has a stupid crazy older brother, maybe you two could be stupid and crazy together!" Jake interrupted.
"Shut up, Jake!" my words came out from the hot pits of her stomach, "You’re such a loser! You and your fucking friends think you know it all, but you’re just a loser!"
"Danny! Don't talk to your brother like that!"
"It's not fair mom! I hate this place; I don't have any friends."
Her pause seemed to reflect justice, "Danny, did you take you medicine today?" She was wrong.
"I don't want to take my medicine today, Mom, I don't want to be here!"
Danny's mother went over to the cupboard and obtained a small white pill and placed it in Danny's hand.
"Take it, and go to bed, without dinner. Now."
Danny began to object but was cut off shortly by her mom. She stormed off to her room, with her brother making horrible giggling sounds behind her.

Danny slammed the door and threw the pill across the room. She watched it bounce off the wall and come landing softly on the ugly brown carpet. She stared at the pill a while before picking up her journal again.

They don't understand me. I hate them. If my dad was here I would live with him!

Danny’s thoughts stayed on this sentence, she dwelled on have never had a father. It didn't bother her, she didn't care whether she had a dad or not, that was just another adult trying to tell her what to do. But this time, the thought of not having even known her father made her somewhat sad. She decided to brush it off as she continued writing.

I'm going to be in the 9th grade this year, I already hate the school and I've never been there. Jake's going to be in 6th grade. He'll make friends and they'll follow his every command. I don't know how he does it; he's such a jerk. Mom thinks he's the perfect child. She doesn't see me for who I am, only for who my medicine says I am! She never listens to me.

Her mind rolled over this evening's events in her head and her eyes welled up to tears. She didn't usually get upset over anything, and she didn't like it. Danny got up from her chair, picked the pill off the floor and dusted it off before popping it into her mouth and going to bed.
